French power giant EDF Renewables recently announced that it has secured a 179 MW solar project in Nevada to power Switch's data center. This is the first utility-scale solar power plant ever built by the Department of Land Management's solar energy department. EDF Renewables purchased the SwitchStation project from FirstSolar. The project consists of 1,980,840 solar panels and covers a total area of 1,797 acres.
Switch Strategy Executive Vice President, said, "SwitchStation1 and SwitchStation2 reflect the cornerstone of our company's value, that is, to ensure that the data running on our planet will not damage our planet, and the establishment of new local renewable energy resources." Switch will receive the power through a power purchase agreement with a subsidiary of NVEnergy to help Switch achieve its 100% clean energy goal.
EDF Renewable Energy USA vice president of development revealed that "EDF Renewables plans to invest 3 billion US dollars from now to 2020 for the country's renewable energy projects."
