Australia Installed Capacity of 1GW and Broke a Number of Small-Scale Installed Capacity Records in 2017

According to consulting firm SunWiz, Australia has already built a 1GW solar project in 2017, marking the fastest in history and having recorded many of its smaller PV projects.

Data show that up to 2017, Australia has established 893MW of 100kW photovoltaic projects. The forecast is 1.05GW by the end of this year. At the same time, a project of more than 100kW has been established for 114MW. As of the end of November, these numbers combined totaled more than 1GW, which means Australia "will" exceed the highest 1.058GW record set in 2012.

The installed capacity of commercial and industrial solar roofs reached a record high of 285MW in November, a figure that surpassed the 2016 highest record of 228MW.

Australia also recorded a solar project under 100kW in less than a month, with 122MW of STCs (small-scale technology certificates) in November alone.

New South Wales has the highest registration of PV projects in any one month and the average capacity of solar projects under 100kW in Australia increased to 6.7kW. SunWiz said the data shows that commercial solar energy is a growing share of all types of solar projects - another record.

Other records include:

- Proportion of 75-100kW capacity system projects

- Commercial projects of various size systems

As a result,Australia's battery installation also hit the highest record in the world.
